History of Altair:
Altair was launched in 1982. The entire family (mum, dad and son) worked together on completing the boat, which resulted in a very rapid completion when compared to other 900s, given that it was hull number 30. It was built in a specially constructed boat shed out the back of the family house on the Haarlemmerringvaart. The family mostly took her out for sailing holidays on the Solent. In 2001 we bought the yacht. Between 2002 and 2005 we did a large refit in which we made some changes to improve the overall handling abilities of the boat and improved the level of comfort for those that will sail her. In the years following the refit we continued to upgrade items such as the electrical system, engine and rigging to bring it up to date with modern standards.
Located in Huizen (NL), direct access via lake Gooimeer to Muiden, Almere, or via Randmeren to Spakenburg, Harderwijk and Elburg. Other itineraries are Amsterdam, Volendam, Hoorn of Enkhuizen via lake Markermeer, or longer trips via lake IJsselmeer to Friesland or Wadden Sea.
Lake Gooimeer contains a number of small islands called De Schelp and Het Huizer Hoef, which can be visited by boat and lake Eemmeer contains the Dode Hond island. Lake IJmeer (part of lake Markermeer) contains a group of islands (De Drost, Warenar and Hooft), which are situated just opposite Almere Zand. It is possible to stay overnight on all these islands.
